Jodhpur, a gateway to the Thar desert towns, is the second largest city of Rajasthan and for almost five centuries it was the capital of Marwar.
Today, this Blue City seems to have been put together for the benefit of the tourist. The major attraction in Jodhpur for any visitor is the impressive 15th century Mehrangarh Fort.
Mehrangarh Fort
The foundation of the fort was laid on May 12, 1459 by Rao Jodha on a rocky hill 9 kilometres to the south of Mandore.

Famous Palaces
As you walk around the fort you can see a lot of courtyards and palaces and the amazingly put together museum with its exquisite collection of artefacts. So of the famous Palace inside the fort include Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace), Phool Mahal (Flower Palace), Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace Sileh Khana and Dault Khana where you can get visitand view the collection of palanquins, howdahs, royal cradles, miniatures, musical instrument, costumes and furniture.
The cannons, placed strategically, on the ramparts are well – Preserved and impressive.
Chamunda Mataji Temple
The Chamunda Mataji was Rao Jodha’s favorite goddess, he brought her idol from the old capital of Mandore in 1460 and installed her in Mehrangarh fort.
To the left of the fort is chhatri of Kirat Singh Soda, a soldier who fell on the spot defending the Mehrangarh fort.
Different Gates Surrounding Fort
There are seven gates, which include Jayapol meaning victory built by Maharaja Man Singh to commemorate his victories over Jaipur and Bikaner armies.
Fattehpol also meaning victory gate was built by Maharaja Ajit Singh to mark the defeat of Mughals.
